Looking to make a career out of flying?

The next step after your private pilots licence is a commercial pilots licence. A CPL allows you to be employed as a commercial pilot.

So what’s involved?

Becoming a commercial pilot means building on your private pilots licence, gaining experience to operate an aircraft at a professional level, and undertaking commercial level examinations both theory and practical.

To be eligible for a commercial licence you require 200 hours total flight time with 100 hours solo.

The Theory consists of passing 6 theory exams – Navigation, Aviation law, Human factors, Aircraft technical knowledge and Meteorology and Principles of Flight. Each exam can be self-studied or an Aero Club instructor can assist with tutoring/classes.

A class 1 aviation medical is required for this licence. This is done by a Civil Aviation Authority approved medical examiner.

You can start working towards your CPL at any age however you can only hold a commercial licence once your are 18.
