Looking to make a career out of flying?

The next step after your private pilots licence is a commercial pilots licence. A CPL allows you to be employed as a commercial pilot.

So what’s involved?

Becoming a commercial pilot means building on your private pilots licence, gaining experience to operate an aircraft at a professional level, and undertaking commercial level examinations both theory and practical.

To be eligible for a commercial licence you require 200 hours total flight time with 100 hours solo.

The theory consists of passing 6 theory exams – navigation, aviation law, human factors, aircraft technical knowledge, meteorology, and principles of flight. Each exam can be self-studied or an Aero Club instructor can assist with tutoring/classes.

A Class 1 aviation medical certificate is required for the CPL from a Civil Aviation Authority approved medical examiner.

You can start working towards your CPL at any age, however you cannot obtain your CPL until you are 18 years or over.
